Yes, to the Most High shall all the
proud of the earth be humbled;
before the Creator shall all bow
who go down to the dust,
and who cannot sustain their lives.
Posterity shall know and serve Love,
telling of the One who abides in all
to the coming generations,
And proclaiming deliverance to a people yet unborn
That the Most High dwells among us.
Psalm 22 is one of the psalms one hopes to never have to rely on. It is a psalm of being crucified by forces that seem beyond our control. Those forces can be cancer, drought, fire, brokenness in the home,violence in our communities; the list seems to have no end. Therefore, it is a psalm that all of us will need to rely on more than once, and that is a blessing. For in the middle of the lament of broken strength and unrelenting pain, the soul speaks and hope emerges : "For our loving Creator does not turn away from the afflicted, and does not hide from them; their voices are heard: their prayers rise up to heaven."
The psalmist adds her voice and sings because she knows she is not alone.
